Canada and Australia Christmas 2026 Shipping Cut-offs: Canada Post and Australia Post Dates for Shopify Fashion Brands

Canada Post and Australia Post Christmas 2026 shipping dates for Shopify fashion brands, plus how to turn carrier cut-offs into an honest order-by date.

Last updated: October 2026

Quick answer: For Christmas 2026 delivery inside Canada, Canada Post's last recommended send dates for Regular Parcel are 21 December (local), 16 December (regional) and 10 December (national), with Xpresspost running to 22 or 23 December and Priority to 23 December. Inside Australia, Australia Post's metro Parcel Post cut-offs cluster around Monday 21 December for most interstate routes, with earlier dates to and from Western Australia and the Northern Territory, and Express Post runs to Wednesday 23 December on most routes. Subtract your own processing time from these dates to get the "order by" date you show shoppers, and publish it before Black Friday on 27 November.

Most holiday shipping guides for Shopify brands focus on the US and UK. If you sell into Canada or Australia, the dates are different, the distances are bigger, and in Australia the gifts are going into summer. Both national posts have now published their 2026 dates: Canada Post's holiday sending page is dated October 2026, and Australia Post's Christmas page lists 2026 cut-offs. This guide pulls out the dates fashion brands need, explains how to turn them into a promise on your store, and flags the routes that catch people out.

Both carriers stress that these are guides between major urban centres. Canada Post says "Exceptions apply in some areas," and Australia Post notes that regional and rural sending may take longer and that dates may change. Check the live pages again in early December.

Canada Post: Christmas 2026 dates inside Canada

Canada Post Christmas 2026 last recommended send dates by service and distance

Canada Post's holiday sending guidelines split domestic parcels into local, regional and national. For packages, the recommended last send dates are:

  • Priority: 23 December for local, regional and national.

  • Xpresspost: 23 December local, 22 December regional, 22 December national.

  • Expedited Parcel or flat rate box: 22 December local, 18 December regional, 14 December national.

  • Regular Parcel: 21 December local, 16 December regional, 10 December national.

The national Regular Parcel date is the one to watch. If you ship from Toronto to Vancouver on your cheapest service, your last safe send date is Thursday 10 December, almost two weeks before Christmas. A brand that advertises "order by 20 December" across Canada while shipping Regular Parcel nationally will miss Christmas for a large share of orders.

Canada Post: shipping to the US and overseas

If you ship from Canada to customers abroad, Canada Post lists these package dates:

  • To the USA: Xpresspost USA 17 December, Expedited Parcel USA 14 December, Tracked Packet or Small Packet 11 December.

  • To the UK: Xpresspost International 15 December, Tracked Packet or Small Packet 11 December.

  • To Europe: Xpresspost International 15 December, Tracked Packet or Small Packet 9 December.

  • To Australia: Xpresspost International 14 December, Tracked Packet or Small Packet 9 December.

  • To India: Xpresspost International 11 December, Tracked Packet or Small Packet 9 December.

Australia Post: Christmas 2026 dates inside Australia

Key Australia Post Christmas 2026 Parcel Post and Express Post cut-offs

Australia Post publishes a metro-to-metro matrix for Parcel Post. A few patterns matter for fashion brands:

  • Within the same state (metro): Tuesday 22 December.

  • Between the east coast states, ACT and SA: Monday 21 December for most routes, such as NSW to Victoria or Victoria to Queensland.

  • To Western Australia: Friday 18 December from NSW, ACT, Victoria and SA; Thursday 17 December from Queensland; Wednesday 16 December from Tasmania.

  • To the Northern Territory: Wednesday 16 December from NSW, ACT and Victoria; Monday 14 December from Queensland, WA and Tasmania.

  • Express Post: Wednesday 23 December 2026 for most routes between and within NSW, ACT, Victoria, Queensland, SA and Tasmania, and Tuesday 22 December for the NT and for items sent from WA.

Australia Post also says over-the-counter Parcel Post and Express Post items must be lodged by 2.30pm, and that items sent from SA, Tasmania and the NT travel interstate first, so you should add two business days for Express and five business days for Standard and Economy on those routes. If you fulfil from Adelaide or Hobart, build that into your dates.

Australia Post: shipping overseas

From Australia, the 2026 international cut-offs include:

  • To the USA: Express 11 December, Standard 7 December, Economy Air 30 November.

  • To the UK: Express 15 December, Standard 11 December, Economy Air 4 December.

  • To New Zealand: Express 15 December, Standard 9 December, Economy Air 2 December.

  • To Canada: Express 14 December, Standard 8 December, Economy Air 1 December.

Note the Economy Air date to the US: 30 November, the day of Cyber Monday. If you are an Australian brand running a Black Friday promotion to US shoppers on your cheapest service, your shipping window closes the same weekend.

Turn carrier dates into an "order by" date

Order-by date formula with Canada and Australia worked examples

Carrier cut-offs tell you when a parcel must be in the network. Shoppers need to know when to place the order. The gap is your processing time. A simple formula:

Order-by date = carrier last send date, minus your processing days, minus one buffer day.

Two worked examples:

  • Canadian brand, national Regular Parcel, two business days to pick and pack: Canada Post's date is Thursday 10 December. Two business days earlier is Tuesday 8 December. With a buffer day, show "Order by Monday 7 December for Christmas delivery across Canada."

  • Australian brand in Sydney, Parcel Post to Perth, one business day processing: Australia Post's NSW to WA date is Friday 18 December. One business day earlier is Thursday 17 December. With a buffer, show "Order by Wednesday 16 December for delivery to WA."

Then publish the dates by region, not one national date. Shoppers in Vancouver, Perth or Darwin deserve an honest date, and a regional table on your shipping page plus a short banner on product pages is usually enough. If you also ship to the US and UK, our guides to US holiday shipping cutoffs and UK Christmas shipping cutoffs cover those carriers.

Fashion-specific traps in these two markets

  • Seasons are opposite. In Australia, Christmas falls in summer, so gift edits for Australian shoppers should lead with linen, swimwear, sandals and light dresses, not the knitwear and coats you may be pushing to Canadian shoppers at the same time. If one store serves both, consider separate gift edits by market.

  • Exchanges cost a second trip. A wrong size sent nationally on Regular Parcel in Canada, or to WA in Australia, may not make it back and out again before Christmas. Clear size guidance on gift-heavy products matters more in big countries.

  • Heavy items push you to slower services. Coats and boots are bulky, which tempts brands onto cheaper, slower services. Check which service your rates actually use for heavier fashion parcels before you promise a date.

  • Remote and rural addresses. Both carriers' dates are for major urban centres. If you ship regularly to rural Canada or regional Australia, add extra days or exclude those postcodes from your Christmas promise.

After the cut-off: keep selling honestly

When your last standard date passes, switch your messaging rather than your promise. Promote express shipping with its own clear date (23 December for Canada Post Priority, 23 December for most Australia Post Express routes), and promote digital gift cards for anything later. Keep the regional table up to date, and take the Christmas promise off product pages the moment it no longer holds.

Where Elara fits

Late-season gift shoppers are often in a hurry and unsure what to choose. Elara for Commerce is a conversational AI shopping assistant for fashion brands on Shopify: it can start the conversation, ask who the gift is for and what the occasion is, and suggest complete looks from your catalog, so a shopper can decide before your order-by date rather than after it. As industry benchmarks, Neuwark (2026) reports 4x conversion rates with AI shopping assistants and Rep AI (2025) reports 25% higher average order value; these are not Elara results.

FAQ

What is the last day to ship with Canada Post for Christmas 2026?

It depends on the service and distance. Canada Post lists 23 December for Priority, 22 to 23 December for Xpresspost, and 10 December for national Regular Parcel, as of its October 2026 holiday guidelines.

What is the last day to send Parcel Post with Australia Post for Christmas 2026?

For most metro routes between the eastern states, Australia Post lists Monday 21 December, with Tuesday 22 December within the same state. Routes to and from WA and the NT close earlier, from 14 to 18 December.

When is the Australia Post Express Post cut-off for Christmas 2026?

Wednesday 23 December for most routes between NSW, ACT, Victoria, Queensland, SA and Tasmania, and Tuesday 22 December for the NT and for items sent from WA, according to Australia Post's 2026 Christmas page.

How do I set an "order by" date on my Shopify store?

Take the carrier's last send date for your slowest service and route, subtract your processing days, and subtract one buffer day. Publish the result by region on your shipping page and in a product page banner.

Are these carrier dates guaranteed?

No. Both carriers describe them as guides between major urban centres, and Australia Post says dates may change. Recheck both pages in early December.

What should I do after the Christmas shipping cut-off?

Promote express services with their own dates, then switch to digital gift cards, and remove Christmas delivery promises from product pages once they no longer hold.
