Measurement

Incremental Lift

Incremental lift is the actual revenue or conversion improvement caused by an AI tool — isolated through a holdout test that separates what the tool caused from what would have happened anyway.

What this means

The concept of incrementality is central to honest measurement of any marketing or product intervention: the question is never "did revenue happen alongside this tool," but "did this tool cause revenue that wouldn't have happened otherwise." The two can differ substantially, especially for tools that shoppers opt into voluntarily. Incremental lift is typically expressed as a percentage difference between a treatment group (exposed to the tool) and a control group (not exposed), measured over a defined window with enough volume to be statistically meaningful.

Why it matters for fashion brands

Most AI tool metrics measure correlation (sessions with AI interaction converted at X%). Incremental lift measures causation (sessions with AI converted at X% more than comparable sessions without it). The difference can be 2-3x on the same underlying data.
