Size Guide Optimization

Size guide optimization is the practice of improving the clarity, specificity, and accessibility of fit information on product pages to reduce size-related returns and purchase hesitation.

What this means

Generic size charts (numeric measurements mapped to size labels) leave shoppers to do their own interpretation of fit, which varies by garment cut, fabric, and brand. Optimized size guidance adds product-specific context: how a particular style runs relative to the brand's standard sizing, and what adjustments a shopper might want to make. The best size guide optimization is conversational rather than static — a shopper can ask a specific fit question ("does this run large?") and get a direct answer, rather than parsing a generic chart and guessing.

Why it matters for fashion brands

Fit uncertainty is one of the top reasons shoppers abandon fashion purchases. Specific, product-level fit notes ("runs slightly long in the torso; size down if you prefer a cropped fit") reduce both hesitation and post-purchase returns more effectively than generic size charts.
